So You Always Wanted to Write for Film or TV

This class is designed for people who have stories or ideas they want to write and develop for film and TV and to help them do it. Participants will learn about feature and pilot structure, character development, and how plot and story work in various genres. We will also take a deep dive into pitching and what goes into a strong pitch and what you need beyond the story to sell it. In other words, how you get the script written and then sold.

About Andy Wolk
Andy's currently directing ANTIGONE for Antaeus. His writing/directing career began with HBO movie CRIMINAL JUSTICE which made Time's “Ten Best” List. Starring Forest Whitaker, it received the Silver Prize in Cannes and was nominated for the WRITER’S GUILD AWARD. He received the WRITER’S GUILD AWARD for NATICA JACKSON starring Michelle Pfeiffer. He also shared an EMMY as a writer on HBO’s FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON.

He has been nominated for the DIRECTORS GUILD AWARD twice and has directed numerous TV movies and episodes including THE SOPRANOS, DAMAGES for which Glenn Close won an EMMY and THE PRACTICE for which Alfre Woodard won the EMMY and he received the HUMANITAS AWARD.

He has also been writer/director on many movies including DELIBERATE INTENT for FX and THE DEFENDERS: PAYBACK, CHOICE OF EVILS and TAKING THE FIRST, for Showtime starring Beau Bridges and E.G. Marshall based on the classic 60s show. He recently wrote and directed ROUGH MAGIC: EXIT SHAKESPEARE -- a film about Shakespeare at the end of his career.

Other writing credits include a TALES FROM THE CRYPT starring Demi Moore along with writing and rewriting features for Miramax, Paramount,Tri-Star, UA, MGM, Warners, Columbia, and AVCO Embassy plus developing pilots for HBO, Fox, ABC, and Showtime.

He teaches at Carnegie-Mellon’s School of Drama and was on the faculty of AFI for 10 years. He taught Screenwriting at Penn and also served as a Creative Advisor and Artistic Director for the Sundance Institute’s Labs.
