Masterclass: Getting to Know Twelfth Night

Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center

$125 for Two-Day Masterclass

This Academy Class is open to everyone—from theater enthusiasts and newcomers to seasoned actors looking to deepen their understanding of Twelfth Night, our next production at Antaeus.

Harold Bloom wrote: “I have to admit that Twelfth Night is surely the greatest of all Shakespeare’s pure comedies.

With that in mind we will read the play together, taking parts as we choose. We will explore how the text is working, noting rhetorical devices, changes from prose to verse, plot development, character contrasts and so on, all with the intention of looking at how the comedy is working. Armed with this textual understanding of the play, we will be ready for maximum enjoyment of The Antaeus production.

There will be only two meetings of this group, so if possible, read a bit of the play first. If you are new to Shakespeare, I recommend getting Shakespeare Alive by Joseph Papp and Elizabeth Kirkland, a terrific condensation of Shakespeare’s world and his writing.
