British Accents
A Two-Day Workshop with Artistic Director Nike Doukas

Have you always wanted to be able to walk into an audition for a British play with an authentic accent? Nike will lead you through the fundamental sound shifts of

  • Received Pronunciation (Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward, GB Shaw)
  • Estuary (London accent for most contemporary plays)
  • Cockney (GB Shaw, Pinter)

During class we’ll review the sounds you need to know, practice aloud with coaching, and do exercises designed to help you learn. You’ll leave with worksheets to guide you and help you practice. Please bring an unmemorized monologue, preferably from a British play.

*Please note, students under 18 require permission from the moderator to take this academy class. If you’re in this category, please reach out to us at academy@antaeus.org.
