Scene Study: Stoppard for Six
A scene study class focusing on works by modern master Sir Tom Stoppard, one of the great playwrights of the English language, often compared with Shakespeare and Shaw. His easy-going genius produced scripts that sparkle with intellect, heartbreak, inventiveness, and his own brilliant strain of wicked/subversive comedy. Working on this material, you will sharpen the skills required in any form of acting: imagination, verbal dexterity, investment in the situation, wit, concentration, and physical ease. And, thanks to Stoppard, it will be FUN!
For First Class: Please prepare a monologue of your choice. Something you feel very comfortable with and enjoy doing… classical or contemporary, period or style is not important. Please read Stoppard’s ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, ARCADIA, and THE REAL THING if you are not already familiar with them. Dress comfortably; there won’t be anything overly strenuous, but we’ll be moving around some! *If you do not have these scripts, please email academy@antaeus.org.
June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29
*Please note, students under 18 require permission from the moderator to take this academy class. If you’re in this category, please reach out to us at academy@antaeus.org.
