Academy FAQs

We believe that learning is a lifelong process. The mission of the Antaeus Academy is to provide classical training for professional artists from all backgrounds, whether they are veteran performers or just out of conservatory programs. Our classes give actors the opportunity to explore complex classical texts moderated by Los Angeles’ most respected professionals. We offer classes in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

When classes are announced, information about the times, dates, tuition, and moderators will be on the Antaeus website at www.antaeus.org/academy. If you’ve taken classes at Antaeus before, email academy@antaeus.org and let us know which class you want to take.

New students are required to audition for the Academy. Auditions are held in August, January, and May of each year. To sign up for audition notices:

Just a two-minute classical monologue – something by Shakespeare, Shaw, or the like. Don’t stress, we mostly just want to meet you!

You can pay with cash, check, or credit card. If you pay with a credit card, there is a 3% fee for each credit card transaction which is added to your tuition. You have the option to pay your full tuition or you can choose to pay in two installments. Please note that the two installment option is slightly higher than the full tuition rate. When you enroll in the class you will be asked which payment option you prefer.

Your full tuition (or first installment) is due by the provided date. If you haven’t paid by that date, your spot in the class will be released to another student.

We always offer an “Early Bird” discount if you pay your tuition by the date set for this rate. Occasionally, we are able to offer returning students an opportunity to work for Antaeus (such as helping with the box office, serving as Class Assistant, etc.) in exchange for part of your tuition. Email academy@antaeus.org for more information. This option is not available for new students at this time.

We can’t offer refunds, but depending on when you drop the class, we may be able to offer you a credit which can be applied to future classes.

We always have a wait list and if a spot opens up, we’ll do our best to get you into your preferred class. We may also recommend a different class we think you might be interested in.

To audit a class, email academy@antaeus.org to ask about whether the moderator allows auditing. We do require advance notice so that the moderator can be notified of any guests in class. The first time you audit a class it is free – each additional audit of that class is $25, which can be paid with cash, check, or credit card (3% fee applies).

Yes. Photos and videos may be taken during classes and used for social media and marketing purposes. Antaeus employees will provide advance notice of when photos and videos will be taken, if possible. Antaeus employees are aware of the sensitive and private nature of some acting exercises and will arrange with class moderators before entering a class.
