Some Things Never Change

We’re so grateful for the encouraging responses we’ve received from our emails. And we want you to know that, even in this time of change and uncertainty, our commitment to the Antaeus mission remains strong. Over the last five months, our team has remained energized and focused on how we can serve our community through this crisis.  Our fiscal year will end on August 31, and we’re asking for your support to help sustain our evolving artistic endeavors, from our Academy to the Antaeus Playwrights Lab, to our community-based Arts Education programs, and more!

THE ANTAEUS ACADEMY

We believe that learning is a lifelong process. Taught by renowned artists, the Antaeus Academy offers high-level training to professional actors at all career levels.

This 2019/20 Season, over 100 students enrolled in Academy classes for our fall, spring, and summer semesters – with many returning for a second class. The Academy moved to an online format in March, with students meeting weekly on Zoom for Shakespeare, scene study, and career coaching courses. Our spring semester moderators (Gigi Bermingham, Paul Culos, Rob Nagle, and Elizabeth Swain) rose to the occasion, and despite digital restrictions, students found the online courses enriching and helpful. Summer classes are now underway and, even with current restrictions, a new virtual audition process allowed us to welcome new students to the Academy this semester!

ARTS EDUCATION

Our community-based Arts Education program had to pause when schools closed in March, but we will be relaunching the programs virtually with our partner sites this fall. Our Teaching Artists are looking forward to working again with students and participants at William Tell Aggeler Opportunity High School, New Village Girls Academy, Herbert Hoover High School, and Homeboy Industries.

PLAYWRIGHTS LAB

Established in 2014, the Antaeus Playwrights Lab is a vital part of our theater’s artistic programming. Members participate in weekly meetings where Antaeus actors bring their newly written words to life – an extraordinary resource when developing new plays. These meetings also moved online at the start of the shutdown, which continued to provide Lab members with a creative outlet and a supportive community. This fall, Antaeus actors will perform original works from the Lab in an innovative new way as we share The Zip Code Radio Plays series, celebrating the history and cultural diversity of Los Angeles through six audio plays.

HELP SUPPORT ARTISTS AT ANTAEUS

If you are able to, please make a one-time or recurring gift today to sustain our ongoing artistic programming during this challenging time. At a time when so many organizations are struggling, your support help us share the transformative power of theater in a new way.

To all of you who have already donated, thank you for supporting our mission, and believing in the bright future of Antaeus.
