Antaeus Academy FAQs

What is the Antaeus Academy?

We believe that learning is a lifelong process. The mission of the Antaeus Academy is to provide classical training for professional artists from all backgrounds, whether they are veteran performers or just out of conservatory programs. Our classes give actors the opportunity to explore complex classical texts moderated by Los Angeles’ most respected professionals. We offer classes in the Spring, Summer, and Fall, serving more than 220 talented students annually.

How Do I Enroll?

When classes are announced, information about the times, dates, tuition, and moderators will be on the Antaeus website at www.antaeus.org/academy. If you’ve taken classes at Antaeus before, you can either email the Company Manager at academy@antaeus.org, or you can use the online enrollment form to indicate which class(es) you wish to take, and the Company Manager will send you the appropriate information.

New students are required to audition for the Academy, and auditions can be scheduled through the Company Manager. To schedule an audition, email academy@antaeus.org.

What do I have to prepare for the audition?

Just a two-minute classical monologue - something by Shakespeare, Shaw, or the like. Don’t stress, we mostly just want to meet you!

How Do I pay for my class?

You can pay with cash, check, or credit card. If you pay with a credit card, there is a 3% fee to help cover transaction costs. If your class is longer than 7 weeks, you can arrange to pay in installments. All tuition payments must be made before your final class.

Are there any discounts?

We always offer an “Early Bird” discount if you pay your tuition in full at least two weeks before class starts. We also offer a “buy one, get one 50% off” discount - if you take two classes, you can get the second one at half price.

If I have to drop a class, can I get a refund?

We can’t offer refunds, but depending on when you drop the class, we may be able to offer you a credit which can be applied to future classes. For details, speak to the Company Manager.

Do you offer a work study program?

Occasionally, we are able to offer a limited number of students the opportunity to do work for Antaeus (such as helping with the box office, building sets, etc.) in exchange for classes. Email the Company Manager for more details.

What can I do if the class I wanted to take is full?

We always have a wait list and if a spot opens up, we’ll do our best to get you into your preferred class. We may also recommend a different class we think you might be interested in. Or you can audit the class.

How do I audit a class?

To audit a class, first email the Company Manager to ask about whether the moderator allows auditing. We do require advance notice so that the moderator can be notified of any guests in class. The first audit of a class is free - each additional audit of that class is $25, which can be paid with cash, check, or credit card (3% fee applies).
